Androids
With the advances in technology, humans (with the help
of some of the more technologically advanced species
in the Galactic Alliance) were able to create androids,
or humanoid robots. They are metallic
silver in appearance, have white hair and blue eyes.
They appear human and, though programmed with basic
personality structures and functions,
may exceed them as they are allowed a certain amount
of free will. They hold many positions, including
household maintenance,
technology maintenance, archivists, soldiers, and avatars.
In theory, they can only be deactivated by the person
who programmed them.
Brekkens
They serve as mankind and the Galactic Alliance’s greatest
threat. They occupy all of the Terran System (except for
Terra II which serves as a neutral buffer zone between the territories
of the Galactic Alliance and the Brekkens) and are currently
attempting to expand their territories through open invasions
as well as surprise raids. They often take human slaves,
forcing them to wear a slave mask and collar denoting their status. The
species share many similarities with the human appearance,
except their eyes are a golden yellow. Males usually sport a
unique tattoo on their chests. Their senses are also
more heightened, tend to be taller than the average human
male, and are extremely strong. Brekken society is matriarchal, so
any family without a female is considered lower class and
may be outcast. Males tend to wear armbands called Rokkas that indicate
status to prospective mates.
Brekken Empire
The unified empire formed by Terra I through Terra X (excluding
Terra II). It is ruled by the Great Mother, traditionally
the best female Brekken warrior and leader. There is no royal dynasty – each
Great Mother rules until she is overthrown by another
Brekken female who then becomes the next Great Mother. There has never
been a male leader although most Great Mothers keep a
male consort..or two. This is a very warlike empire, and gender is irrelevant
in the military structure – only skill and strength matter.
The Empire keeps human slaves and mineworkers – they
usually do not capture members of other races (any other
kind of alien race is just executed during a raid or
surrender). Humans are treated differently because they are
considered
to be merely less developed Brekkens due to
the similarities in their appearance. The Galactic Alliance
tried to form a treaty with them thirteen years ago,
but it fell through due to arguments regarding certain
provisions. The Empire is currently seeking to expand
its boundaries.
Galactic Alliance
Initially formed many centuries ago by the Grecians and currently
has over 100 member worlds, including United Earth. Its
main goal is to unify and bring peace to the galaxy as
well as make advancements
in science and initiate cultural exchange. It attempted
to make peace with the Brekken Empire, which rivals it
in size and population. In recent
years, the
Galactic Alliance leaders felt the need to create an
off-the-books organization called Orion Guardians,
Inc. in
order to defend their member planets from the increasing
attacks of the Brekken Empire.
Gresians
They are the founding member of the Galactic Alliance and
are known for their intelligence, friendliness, and pacifist
ideals. They naturally hold many of the leadership positions
in the Alliance. Currently, they are attempting negotiations
with Brekken representatives
in an effort to stop the raids, but neither side is particularly
optimistic. They have scaly skin and gills and are amphibious
(they must
sit
in a
tank of water and rehydrate
for at least three hours a day). Recently, some Gresians
have rejected pure pacifism and feel sometimes that defensive
and
offensive tactics are required to maintain peace in the
galaxy, and as a result, the Orion Guardians, Inc. was
formed.
Humans
Not much to explain. Humans have not changed very much
during the past millennia. However, with the advent of
new technology and research, mankind is no longer limited
to the
bounds of Earth. All the peoples of Earth have joined
together to form United Earth and have even moved to
colonize Mars.
In 3010, United Earth joined the Galactic Alliance with
100 other alien species (number currently growing). With
this expansion
into space, genetic engineering and alterations were
necessary for some people in order to help them adapt
to life off of
Earth, so there are quite a few genetically enhanced
members of the human race now. It is not a process just
anyone can go through - there are many channels and tests
one must first pass in order to be considered as a candidate.
Orion Guardians, Inc.
An off-shoot organization created by the Galactic Alliance
that functions as the secret defense (and sometimes offense)
of the 100+ member worlds of the Alliance – they
try to stay under the radar as technically, they do not
exist. Though originally started and organized by
Gresians, they have slowly allowed in and trained agents
and scientists
of various other species. They have quite a few agents
undercover, even in the Brekken Empire as they have
access to the
brightest minds and greatest new inventions of the
Alliance (including
Drago’s serum). There are debates on the legality and
validity of such an organization in the supposedly peaceful
Galactic Alliance.
OI-3
A top secret, off-the-books division of the Orion Guardians
that was recently created for the sole purpose of dealing
with Brekken intel and threats; the Core Four are the
first agents
of this division, which is headed by the Gresian Director
Harkow.
Outcasters
Brekken rebels who reside on Terra II, which lies between
the Brekken Empire and Galactic Alliance – as such, the
Brekkens that live on the planet are more open to the
ideas and way of life practiced by the Alliance. Some
of the Brekkens
began to disagree with the Brekken way of life
and rebelled against the Great Mother and her troops
in 4057 after
the falling out at the Brekken-Alliance Peace Talks.
The rebellion was crushed and the rebels relegated to
Terra II, the least
habitable planet in the Terran system. In recent years,
the rebel movement has gained supporters as well as increased
their
manpower, technologies, and supplies. They have also
been speaking secretly with the Galactic Alliance through
the Orion Guardians
in an attempt to gain their military and intelligence
backup in the future.
United Earth
The alliance formed by all the planets and species in the
Milky Way Galaxy. The planet Earth is the capital of
this alliance. They joined the Galactic Alliance in 3010.
Wreckers
A semi-legal group (depends on who you ask) that make a living
salvaging and stripping deserted or wrecked ships. The
general rule is that any ship without a crew that is
dead-in-the-water can be legally salvaged. However, some
Wreckers go even further to damage ships themselves for
the cargo and parts, which is illegal. They are, in a
sense, the pirates and treasure hunters of this time.
